Beverly Eckert, a widow of the attacks of 9/11 and noted activist, is amongst the deceased of the plane crash that occurred this morning in Buffalo, New York. Continental Flight 3407 crashed in Buffalo, New York yesterday evening, killing all passengers on board, according to a Reuters article on the story. Fox News notes that the commuter plane was coming for a landing at the airport when it somehow lost control and slammed into a nearby house, also claiming the life of a person within the building. There were no calls from distress from the plane to the control tower before the crash. Although the exact reason for the crash has not yet been made clear, investigators are researching the possible role of the icey weather occurring at the time in the accident, reports The Telegraph. As of yet, a full flight manifest of the passengers has not been made public.
Buffalo News reports that Berverly Eckert lost her husband, Sean Rooney, during the attacks of 9/11 at the World Trade Center in 2001. Since that time, Eckert has become a vocal activist regarding the attack. Wikipedia lists her as o-chair of the 9/11 Family Steering Committee and a leader of “Voices of September 11.” She had recently met with President Obama, who expressed his condolences to her friends and family this morning. She was traveling aboard Flight 3407 to celebrate her late husband’s birthday by attending a scholarship presentation that she had created in his honor.
