Public speaking help is here! Public speaking is a skill in communicating thoughts and knowledge and expressing ideas to groups of people. It is thought of as one of the worst fears, right up there with getting sick, dying, and the classic fear of heights. It’s a skill that needs to be practiced and honed. Speaking in public is the one skill no successful person can afford to be without!
Speaking from a platform or podium is different than holding a one on one conversation. Whenever you need public speaking help, follow these rules. Talking too rapidly is a major communications no-no, as is speaking to softly and slurring is another. Get to the room early, walk around the speaking area and practice using the microphone and any visual aids. Imagine yourself speaking, your voice loud, clear and confident. Experience builds confidence, which is the key to effective speaking. The more you speak in public, the better you get at it. There are also some Great Self-Help Programs that allow you to become successful!

Feeling some butterflies before giving a speech is normal and even beneficial, but too much nervousness can be detrimental. Here are some other suggestions that I have found to be key elements of public speaking help. When you are delivering your speech live, the same adrenaline that makes you nervous also helps you think better and find the right words to make your speech sound smooth. Vary the pace at which you deliver the speech. Use note cards or notes on card stock for extemporaneous speeches. Try to keep your speech under 20 minutes, if possible. Never end your speech with, “that’s all”.
Public speaking is more than just talking in front of many people. It is the single most important skill you can have as a leader. It is definately a skill and a skill that is easy to learn with practice and help.
