Having just moved to Memphis, one of the first recommendations we took was to get a Memphis Zoo membership. We did so within about two weeks of moving in, and do not regret it at all.
About Memphis Zoo Membership: The Memphis Zoo is currently the highest rated zoo in the United States, narrowly beating out the San Diego zoo. A zoo membership costs a family of five approximately $100 for a year, which pays itself off after two visits. It took us about 3 weeks to get our money’s worth from the zoo membership. Additionally, it has reciprocal agreements with about 100 zoos across the country, so you can go to other participating zoos for free or at a reduced fare. There are also promotional events, such as an upcoming Zoo Brew—I don’t know what it entails, but it sounds fun for me.
Zoo Attractions: We were told that Sunday morning is the best time to go to the zoo, so that is when we went. It actually took our family two visits to see everything. There are too many animals and exhibits to list here, but the website does a great job (www.memphiszoo.org). Our family’s favorite exhibit, though, is the meerkats. Bring a small cooler, as you can go to a nearby park & have a picnic afterwards.
Overall: Good value, and probably the best zoo you’ll visit this year.
