Tips and Tricks:

While I didn’t dream last night I don’t count it as a loss. It sucks that I didn’t get to enjoy a dream but I understand what happened to cause this. When we sleep for roughly 6 or more hours we enter REM(Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. During REM sleep is when we have the majority of our dreams.  Unfortunately after each of the many dreams we can have in one night our subconscious memory wipes them. But there is a good trick to subvert this. First by setting your alarm to wake you up during REM sleep you may interrupt a dream before it finishes thereby remembering it.  Now it is a pain to set your alarm for 4 am or 5 am in the morning. But you can always go back to sleep. Internet rumour states that you should wait 10-15 minutes after waking up to go back to bed, I never have had to stay up and I still managed to squeeze out more dreams during the rest of the morning. When you go back to sleep after interrupting REM sleep you will dramatically shorten the 5-8 hours to get into REM sleep. From this waking up and going back to bed technique(WBTB) you can have two or more dreams to remember in one night you could even in theory set your alarm to sleep for an hour and increase your dream count from 2-6 depending on how late you sleep in! (you might not want to use this method if you have a loved one in the house or the same room.)

Last night’s dream:

Unfortunately I had no dreams that I remember but there is a good reason for it. I don’t set my alarm in the morning to wake up and go back to sleep. Instead I have a little dog that sleeps with me and by about 6am on wards he really wants to go outside. So my little furry alarm clock will push its cold nose in my face or give me a hug by wrapping around my neck every time I move in my sleep because he takes this as waking up.  On days where I can sleep in till 10 am I can have a few dreams because my dog will wake me up at least once. Unfortunately this morning I have to work early on a civic holiday so I never got woken either by my alarm clock or pet because I went to bed earlier.

Conclusion:

Find a way to wake up in the very early morning. If you’re lucky you naturally wake up once or twice a night to go to the washroom.  Comment if this method has worked for you in the past or if it works tonight.
