Poltergeist Movie Remake

One of my favorite movies of all time is the 1980s movie Poltergeist. As a matter of face, it has been my all-time favorite movie since I was a small child. I own all 3 on VHS & DVD, the soundtrack to the first & second, & I own the books to one & two.

Recently, there has been talk of a possible remake of the 1980s classic. From what I have read in the past, someone is working on the script. Whether or not it’s actually going to come out with it is beyond me.

I would like to share my thoughts & feelings on this rumored remake. Please keep in mind that this is my opinion & I’m not speaking for anyone but myself. But I actually have mixed feelings on it…

One part of me isn’t sure whether I like the idea of a remake or not. I mean, I don’t want Poltergeist to be remade into some disgusting, slashing, “Saw” movie gore fest (nothing at all against “Saw” or the fans of the movie). Now, I know when you remake something, you try to be original, but I really hope they do NOT turn Poltergeist into a gore fest. The MOST gore that was in the original movie was one of the guys imagining himself ripping his face off. I’m not big on gore, so of course I wouldn’t want to see the remake filled with it. Once again, that is no disrespect to any of those movies or any fans of it.

I know it’s a horror movie of the ’80s & this is a new generation and such, but I just don’t want see this classic full of gore. But like I said, this is my opinion. Of course, others may feel differently on it, and that is fine.

I think that’s actually the only problem I’d have with it.

Another part of me actually wants this to happen. You see, I never got to see the original in the theaters. I was not born yet, it came out in 1982. It was re-released in the theaters a year or two ago for ONE NIGHT, & I couldn’t make it to see it (I really wanted to, but it didn’t work out). So while this isn’t the original, it’s still my chance to see my favorite movie in some way, shape, or form on the big screen. I think I would actually be pretty excited about that. Plus I’m curious to see how it’s played out. I mean, you never know, it might turn out to be almost as good as the original.

Now, for casting. originally, I wanted to Zelda Rubinstein return as Tangina. But sadly, she passed away earlier this year. I just cannot see anyone else playing that role besides her, but at the same time, I am open to seeing who else can fill the role.

As for the family, -now this may or may not hurt the film- but I would rather not see any huge stars. I would actually like to see the entire Freeling family played by unknowns or up and coming actors and actresses. I don’t know why, but that is just what I would like to see.

Though I must say, if anyone has seen “Orphan”, I think the little girl who played Esther’s adoptive little sister, Max (Aryana Engineer), would make an adorable Carol Anne. She doesn’t have the traditional long blonde hair that the late Heather O’Rourke had, but I still think she’d be adorable in the role. She has only done Orphan so far to my knowledge, so she’s still an up & coming actress.

But if I may request something for this remake, please leave in the original “Carol Anne” theme. I love that score, and I would love to see it used in the remake as well.

Now I do wonder, if they go ahead with this remake, will that creepy clown doll be in the remake?! I was recently reading on a forum what people thought was the creepiest scenes, & the clown is one of the scenes in the lead lol. I can’t say I blame any of them for picking any scenes involving that clown doll as one of the creepiest. I think the creepy clown doll and that creepy tree should both remain in the film remake.

Now, despite what I have seen other people say, I don’t find this to be disrespectful to Heather O’Rourke (the original Carol Anne Freeling), nor do I think she is “rolling over in her grave”. I think, if she were alive today, she would be excited to see the remake of the original franchise.

I think that is about it with my feelings on this rumored remake. We must keep in mind, while the remake IS rumored and listed on the internet movie data base, it does not mean it will happen. But if it really does, I think there’s a good chance I’ll be going to see it.
