Using Diet to lower Cholesterol

One of the first things to do when you diet to lower cholesterol is to include more fruits and vegetables in your diet.  Do not eat them fried or covered in a heavy sauce, that is not going to help you at all.  They should be eaten in their natural raw state, or  just steam them.

You should eat breakfast every morning  during your diet to lower cholesterol.  Start the day with a bowl of oatmeal. Most experts agree that oatmeal is one of the top cholesterol-lowering foods available.  Eat real oatmeal, not instant that is full of sugar.  If you like eggs for breakfast try a cholesterol-free egg substitute instead of whole eggs.

You need to cut back on butter, sour cream, and other fatty condiments. Look for alternatives, try reaching for spices, either when cooking or at the dinner table, somehting besides salt. Put some oregano, basil, parsley, rosemary, thyme, cilantro, coriander, or cumin in your cooking to kick it up a little.

Try to eat foods that are rich in omega 3 fatty acids.  One of the most powerful is fish, which most doctors recommend you eat at least two times a week.  Add some nuts to your diet to lower cholesterol.  These should be unsalted almonds and walnuts, not peanuts. Not to many though, nuts have a high number of calories per serving.

One of the nice side effects when you diet to lower cholesterol might be to simply lose some weight.  This diet to lower cholesterol will do that because it should lower your caloric intake by stopping you from eating some of the high caloric food that people don’t think about.
