The Kalahari Waterpark Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin is truly a fabulous vacation destination. Featuring “America’s largest indoor waterpark” and a great outdoor waterpark as well, you can’t beat the waterpark fun you’ll find here. But the waterparks aren’t the only great aspect of this resort. From the rooms to the restaurants, the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells is truly the best resort in the Dells.
Since it is a waterpark resort, let’s discuss the waterparks first. I personally love the indoor park. The locker rooms are spacious and always quite clean. They have plenty of changing rooms that are large enough to accomodate you and any little kids you have along with you without making you feel cramped. They have two rooms full of showers and free soap to wash up with when you’re done, which is an extremely easy way to wash the chlorine off for both old and young. And the water is always very warm–a great way to end your waterpark experience!
Once you leave the locker room and enter the waterpark, you first see the huge wave pool that is the focal point of this end of the park. To your right is the Flowrider ride that allows you the chance to try your hand at surfing. Water is continuously pushing up an incline with extreme force allowing you to jump on a surf board at the top and try to stay onboard as long as possible. With repeated use of this ride, you can actually become fairly confident and quite good at “surfing”. If you can’t seem to accomplish this task on your own, they do offer surfing lessons for an additional charge nearly every day.
If you have young children, you might want to hang out in the wave pool with them. At the shallow end of the pool, there are several little kid slides and a kiddie play area along with baby swings for the really little ones. My 3 and 5 year olds have always loved this part. Once you get tired of that, you can lounge around in tubes in the wave pool or take your tubes down the connected lazy river. This lazy river is superb! It is goes all around the park, is decorated quite well in the African theme, and has numerous waterfalls and other fun things that spray out at you as you float along (all of which you can also avoid if you choose not to get wet). It spits you out again in the wave pool at the end.
In the middle of the park is a tall staircase that leads to four different rides. Two are tube rides that are both on the more tame side (we’ve taken a one year old on one of them with us), and the other two are body slides. One is a covered body slide that is fun just because you’re in the dark the whole time. The other is a toilet bowl ride that shoots you down a slide into a large bowl that spins you around and around until you free fall out into a deep pool. This is fun for proficient swimmers only.
The middle of the park is home to a large kiddie area. There are a number of body slides here and another huge staircase with all kinds of water guns that you shoot water at each other with. This area is great for young children and older children as well. It also has baby swings and some very small slides for the babies and toddlers as well as some very long slides for older children. There is a large area of tables and chairs here too, so mom and dad can sit back and relax while the kids play.
The far end of the park has a large pool with tons of basketballs and basketball hoops. This can be a great way to get some exercise and just have some fun in the water. On the other side of the basketball pool is another kiddie area that is the best one in the Dells. It has about 10 slides for little kids, and the water is very shallow so it’s easy to watch them without worrying about them drowning. My kids literally spend hours here.
This end of the park is also home to two fabulous family tube water slides. One is almost like a roller coaster. It shoots you up and down and pours water over you at different points during the ride. It pushes you along very quickly giving you that roller coaster type feel as you go up and down hills. It’s a fairly long ride and well worth going on over and over again. The other tube ride is fast, fun, and rather long as well, but a tad bit more tame.
In addition to all the rides, there are numerous hot tubs around the park as well. These are great places to sit back and enjoy a beverage while you relax. There are several little cabanas around where you can purchase food, drinks, and any water gear that you may have forgotten at home. They also have private huts available along the edge of the park (again for an extra charge) that are equipped with big screen tvs, comfy lounge chairs, etc. This is a great option for those of you who like to splurge and enjoy a little fun time out of the water.
Now on to the outdoor waterpark. There are several little kids areas out there that are quite fun for the little ones. There are also a number of adult tube rides that are really fun for older kids and adults. There are lots of lounge chairs and food vendors out here as well, and it’s a great way to spend a summer day outside. As an added bonus, outside of the outdoor waterpark is a really fun regular park for the kids to play at if you get tired of being in the water. It can be really nice to have this option available too.
In addition to the great waterparks, the inside of the resort itself will not disappoint you either. The African theme is fun and well done throughout the entire resort. The rooms are clean and spacious. They offer a variety of different types of rooms from the more modest to the more upscale. They all have a microwave and refrigerator which is really convenient. There are rooms with balconies, hot tubs, fireplaces, etc. You can pretty much get whatever you’re looking for here. And they are all high quality rooms.
There are a number of restaurants in the park as well. I have eaten at all but one of them, and the food was excellent every time. The buffets are out of this world, and the food is first rate. The atmosphere is also noteworthy. And the prices are quite reasonable for a family on a budget.
There is also a fun game room for when you need a break from all the waterpark fun. It’s large and offers games for all ages. You can also do some shopping at the several shops within the resort or buy some yummy treats at the confectionary near the entrance. If you want, they also offer several art classes that you can sign up for if you want to bring home a little artwork or homemade pottery.
In the end, there are a ton of options available to you at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Young and old will find something to please them. Have a blast indoors or out, in water or out of water, at a restaurant or in the privacy of your room. Whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
