How to Make Very Healthy Food Substitutions

While trying to eat healthy turns many people off, I’ve found that making small changes can really make a difference. I love food that tastes good and is good for you. I’ve made the following substitutions and haven’t missed a thing. I’m not a vegetarian and eat all types of cuisine. I also don’t follow the substitutions all of the time. However, overall the occasional healthy substitutions below have not turned me or my family off at all. Try a few and you might be surprised.

Try using Tofu instead of Chicken in your recipes. Many larger food chains are now selling tofu and of course you can find it in a health food store. I’ve even had barbequed Tofu chicken wings! They were just great. I couldn’t believe it. Again try tofu in your dishes that call for chicken. You will probably be as happy as I was, when I decided to give it a try.

Use Turkey instead of Beef. I think most of us have tried this. If not give it a whirl. You will find that in tacos, chili and even burgers there is not much difference in taste. I’ve even had turkey meatloaf and loved it! It tasted great! As I said at the outset, I love food that’s not only good for you, but that also TASTES good.

Got a taste for something crunchy? Reach for Walnuts or Almonds instead of the Potato Chips. This is one that I can truly say: “If I can do it, you can do it!” I used to go out at night if I ran out of potato chips, just to get more. When I saw an article about carcinogens in all cooked potatoes, I went cold turkey for a while. I still craved the crunch however and that’s where nuts that are good for you come in. Try some almonds which can be bought cut thin, like Potato Chips. This can be a substitution that really pays off health wise.

I have a sweet tooth. It’s no way around it. I have my Father to thank for this. However I’ve found that raisons/raisins and sweet peaches serve as a pretty satisfying dessert. I love the sweetness that raisons/raisins provide and the juicy sweetness of fresh peaches. Try this instead of cake or cookies sometimes and your kids will love them too!

If you love tea like I do, then you’ll want to substitute Honey for plain white sugar. Honey is sweet too, but it’s natural and better digested by the body. Be careful with it and don’t use too much. You’ll find that your tea tastes just as good!

Try these tips and introduce them to your loved ones. Slowly but I believe Surely, you’ll find that you don’t even notice that your eating better. Eating healthier will just become a habit that you and yours can share with others.
