The first season of the American television series Bones premiered on September 13, 2005 and concluded on May 17, 2006 on the Fox Network. The show aired on Tuesdays at 8:00 pm ET before moving to Wednesdays at 8:00 pm ET in 2006. The season consisted of 22 episodes and averaged 8.9 million viewers. In the UK, it premiered on January 22, 2006 on Sky1, airing at 10:00 pm on Thursdays.
The first season features six actors who receive star billing. Emily Deschanel portrays Forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan; David Boreanaz portrays FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, who is the Official FBI Liaison with the Jeffersonian; Michaela Conlin portrays Forensic artist Angela Montenegro; Eric Millegan portrays Zack Addy, Dr. Brennan’s lab assistant; T. J. Thyne portrays Entomologist Dr. Jack Hodgins; and Jonathan Adams portrays Dr. Daniel Goodman, the director of the Jeffersonian Institute.
Recurring characters in the first season include John M. Jackson as Sam Cullen, the Deputy Director of the FBI; Patricia Belcher as prosecutor Caroline Julian; Ty Panitz as Parker Booth, Seeley Booth’s son; Heavy D as Sid Shapiro, owner of the Chinese restaurant Wong Fu’s; and Chris Conner as Oliver Laurier, a fanatic of Dr. Brennan’s books. Heath Freeman makes his first appearance as Howard Epps, a death row inmate and serial killer in “A Man on Death Row”. Billy Gibbons makes his first appearance as Angela’s Dad in “The Man in the Fallout Shelter”. Loren Dean makes his first appearance as Russ Brennan, Dr. Brennan’s older brother, in “The Woman in Limbo”.
