First I start with white bread. I personally could eat a grilled cheese with just about any type of bread, but my husband prefers white.
Now this step is very important, so listen carefully. You must always use a good skillet with none of the surface scratched off. If you don’t have a good skillet, I really wouldn’t even attempt to make them.
Make sure you cover one whole side of each slice of bread with butter or margarine that you can spread. If you only have cold, hard butter you either need to take it out of the refrigerator for awhile or you could melt enough butter in the pan to coat the bread, but in this case you need to make sure the butter doesn’t cook too long as it could burn and that just doesn’t taste very pleasant.
You should let the skillet heat up on medium low heat for a few minutes before adding the bread. If not, the bread is sure to stick.
Add the bread and two slices of cheese. Then place the other butter smeared bread on top of the cheese.
Don’t give into temptation to flip the bread too often or too much. Turn each sandwich after about four minutes cooking time. Then do the same for the other side.
At last you should come out with the best grilled cheese sandwiches you’ve ever tasted.
