In today’s society making music isn’t the same as it was 20 years ago. Then a band could tour once every 3 to 5 years and put out a new album five times in there long carer. But fans now are asking way too much from entertainers.
Musicians are pushing themselves to mass produce music. They push out one album after another, work with side projects and often have companies they run themselves. And with this it is unfortunate that fans do not get to see them for whats inside. They only see the next album or tour, not the person being torn on the inside.
One example of an artist over working himself is Thomas DeLonge of Blink-182, Angels and Airwaves, Macbeth and Modlife. Yes, he is in two bands at the same time, Both touring and writing albums on a regular basis as well as running at least two companies. Not to mention he is a father of two beautiful children (Jonas and Ava). After coming off a full swing tour with Angels and Arwaves Thomas took a few days off and went to work on a film he has been putting together with his Angels and Airwaves band mates and is now spending his time writing a new album and gearing up with Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker his Blink 182 band mates.
When you go in the chat room for modlife fans are pushing him to do more. More tour dates, more music, more time on the chat. How much should an entertainer expect to give to their fans? Could this push an early retirement? I say yes. A well deserved retirement! With Thomas’s business mind he could create an empire. The best thing for a musician like him is to slow down and not burn himself out. People love what he does and we would rather have him here ready, willing and able to get the job done.
Mr.DeLonge is only one example of overworked musicians. Sadly most of them do not make it past that point. They turn to drugs or alcohol. Or simply fade away from lack of stage performance.
I wish DeLonge all the rest he needs and will always be his number one supporter, With any thing he does.. Or doesn’t do!
