Playa Blanca is an all year round holiday resort, especially in the winter season when everything is so relaxed and the weather is lovely. It is the most southerly holiday destination of Lanzarote, which has lovely white sandy beaches, and a very long well lit promenade for those romantic evening walks. The Playa Blanca area is one of the most rapidly growing of all the towns on the island.
Arrecife is the islands airport which is approximately 45minutes away and about 27miles (45 km). There are two main ferries in Playa Blanca, which travel to Fuerteventura; the fast ferry only takes about 25 minutes each way. If you prefer a walking holiday, Playa Blanca is great, because it has a bay approx 5 miles (9 km) across and there are several lovely beaches in the bay which are reasonably sheltered and ideal for swimming and sun bathing. If you prefer a winter holiday the weather is very pleasant averaging about 64f in January & February, and in July & August it’s about 76f. There are many good restaurants along the sea front and loads more just behind the promenade, in the town.
My wife and I have stayed in Playa Blanca the last two winters and we thoroughly enjoyed both holidays. The first holiday was in the Playa Flamingo Apartments which is right in front of the beach, and if you have children up to the age 11 or 12 that like all kinds of activities and entertainments, this is the one for you. These apartments are definitely family orientated. They also attract many different kinds of families from all over the world.
The second holiday we had in Playa Blanca, was at a very relaxed and quiet complex of bungalows called “Playa Limones Bungalows”. They are situated just behind the Playa Flamingo beach, about five minutes walk away. The bungalows are very clean and all have a terrace where you can read a book, have lunch or a glass of wine or two. We found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. We are thinking of having a holiday at Playa Limones Bungalows again next year because we enjoyed the holiday so much.
If you are staying in the Playa Flamingo Beach area, there are a few restaurants next to the beach, but it’s only a ten minute walk along the promenade to the harbour, where the ferries are moored and there are a few more restaurants. Then, another two minutes walk further on; you can either carry on walking along the promenade, with more restaurants, or walk into town where there are all kinds of shops.
We always go self catering when on holiday in Playa Blanca and we found plenty of nice places to eat. I know when on holiday it’s good to eat the local food where possible, but no matter where we stay around the world, we always seem to get a craving for Chinese food, and we were not disappointed in Playa Blanca. The three Chinese restaurants we tried were all very good, two are by the harbour and the other was next to Playa Flamingo beach.
If you are thinking of having a relaxing winter holiday I would definitely recommend Playa Blanca because it is much more peaceful that time of year and the weather is still very pleasant. Also, it would probably appeal more to couples, families or elderly people.
