Holiday in Cala D’or, Mallorca – A Great Destination For Families And Couples

There are many restaurants and bars in the resort. The beaches in Cala d’Or resort are lovely white sand and there are six in total. There is a really attractive marina surrounded by palm trees and many places to eat.

My wife and I have stayed at Cala d’Or on five different occasions and enjoyed it every time. We usually stay in an apartment or villa which is often around the Cala Gran beach area and is fairly central. The beach in my view is probably the best out of the six and has some beautiful trees and villas going down both sides of the cove.

If you don’t mind walking, all the beaches are within walking distance, but otherwise you could always hire a bicycle or something a bit faster. If you are staying in the Cala Gran area it is only about a five minute walk to the main centre, where there are plenty of restaurants and some very good shops. There is a particular favourite restaurant of ours in the pedestrian area of town called Don Leone; it has nice food, nice staff and open late.

If you start walking up the hill to town from Cala Gran, and turn left, there is Cala d’Or beach. If you walk through the main centre via the high street that will take you to the beautiful marina, if you are a fan of cabin cruisers you will love it here. There are some lovely restaurants where you can sit under the palm trees and watch the world go by sipping a cold drink. If you walk around the marina it will take you to the furthest beach which is called Cala Egos.

When walking from Cala Gran in the opposite direction the first beach you come to is Cala Esmeralda, the next one is Cala es Forti and the last one Cala Serena. All these beaches are nice and great for families. Cala d’Or is ideal for children, there are many entertainments specially geared towards kids. The nightlife is not too hectic and we enjoyed it very much. If you like eating out, the restaurants are many and varied, but even if you don’t like eating out there is still plenty to do and see.

If you like evening excursions you must go and see the show at “Son Amar” night club at Palma, it’s about an hour away but well worth it. The show is fantastic and probably one of the best shows I have ever seen. If you like day excursions, there are plenty to choose from including Caves of Drach, Museums, Gardens and many more.

The journey from Palma Airport to Cala d’Or is about one hour. The weather in summer is usually very warm and the season is from May to October. There are plenty of supermarkets and anything else you could possibly need. I can thoroughly recommend Cala d’Or for a summer family holiday and would also suit couples.
