Becoming a vegan and following a strict eating regime involves not eating or using anything of animal origin, providing you replace the essential nutrients which you might lose by not eating any animal products. Some people become vegans because they just don’t like the thought of killing animals and of course the animal rights issues and there are those who believe it is just a healthy way of eating. There are also a few that have their own much deeper and complicated reasons for being a vegan but all the above people are genuine in their beliefs.
I became a vegan some years ago and I personally, didn’t find the vegan diet that hard because, although I will eat meat it really doesn’t bother me at all if there is no meat or any meat products on my plate. Even when I used to go to a carvery restaurant with my friends, I much preferred the vegetables (of which were many kinds) with the boiled and roast potatoes. Most vegetables have a certain amount of protein, as do fruit and some grains, and to replace some of the protein that I was previously getting from animal produce I would eat nuts and seeds as snacks and two of my favourites were pumpkin and sunflower seeds, also, soy products are a great source of vegetable protein and you can find many different types of soy products in the supermarkets. When becoming a vegan it is much better to cook or prepare your own food because you know exactly what is in your meal.
Steam some vegetables in the usual way, mash and then fry in shallow pan with a touch of olive oil until crispy, this is just one of the many ways you can cook vegetables. If you can eat plenty of vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds and grains you should be getting enough of the essential nutrients for keeping your body in good health. Also, if you are concerned about getting enough protein, there are many animal protein substitute products on the market now days that only contain vegetable protein. Being a vegan is not really a diet it is a way of life.
When embarking on a vegan way of life you may find it a bit of a challenge at first, but it is also very interesting and can even be enjoyable. In years gone by, many people including some experts have said that being a vegan is not a healthy way of eating, but now they are saying that it is healthy as long as you eat a diet that includes all the necessary nutrients. If you are a vegan you will also be getting plenty of fibre from the vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds. It is much easier to be a vegan at the moment because there are plenty of vegan products available to assist you in your new vegan way of life.
