Kampung boy is one Comic Book base a t true story of the life style or culture for malay boy leave at “kampung”. “Kampung” is taken by Malay word mean village in English. All the stories inside is mostly happen to all Malay boy while they in childhood at their hometown. This is most popular comic book around Malaysia.


Kampung Boy is created by Dato’ Muhammad Nor Khalid or the author name as LAT. Born Kota Baharu Perak Malaysia. Started as create a cominc on age at 9. His first real book was Tiga Sekawan, a story about three friends who banded together to catch robbers. The book was published in his sixth year at Jalan Pasir Puteh Primary School in Ipoh His publisher paid him 25 Ringgit  for his service. By 1968, Lat was earning 100 Ringgit a month from his work.

LAT moving to Kuala Lumpur as cartoonist and joining New Straits Time Malaysia on 1974 as Editorial Cartoonist. On 1979 the first book of Kampung boy has been published. It an autobiography of his life while on Kids at his “kampung” (Village) and sold thousands of copies within three months. The first print of  60,000 over copies sold out within four months and it had to be reprinted. For a country like Malaysia, that response is a big amount. His comics have a very wide range for an audience including children, adult, intellectuals, and also politicians.

Kampung Boy begins like a traditional autobiography created by LAT.  The rest of the book chronicles his life in a very rural village, or kampung, up to about the age of ten, when he is sent off to a boarding school in the town of Ipoh. The details of his life are exotic, but the rhythms of rural life, and of boyhood, are very familiar and well captured. The true story who the author lives at the farms rubber and mines tin, but the life of a boy in a village, falling asleep during lessons in a small school and swimming with his friends in the river, is not all that different from Mark Twain’s childhood.


Kampung Boy was published in France by a French publisher. An American edition of Kampung Boy was published by First Second Books in August 2006. This was the first of his books to be published in the United States. His second American release, Town Boy, is scheduled for release in October 2007. His cartoons reflect his view about Malaysian life and the world. And now Kampung Boy has been translated over 9 language include the latest language for the Germany.

Kampung Boy has been release on animation series. An animated version of the story was made in Los Angeles by Matinee Entertainment in 1997. Kampung Boy has been attracts a thousand viewers on Malaysia television. Now Kampung Boy is the famous animation series at most Malaysia television.
