Obama, in yet another commencement speech, at Hampton University, told the graduates that “with IPods, IPads, Playstations, and X-boxes, information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation. It is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy.”
Oh, and he also mentioned that certain news programs and blogs on the Internet send misinformation.
There are some adults who agree with President Obama, Just recently I was told that my Gather icon “is somewhat aggresive”, and that it gives the impression of being “in your face,” and that it appears I am “trying to be hostile from the get go”.
I guess that’s coming from the same people who hate Uncle Sam, and his pointing finger!
I find it amazing that the President of the United States said something vaguely similar at another commencement speech. He told the students at the University of Michigan, that if they listen to Glenn Beck, they should read the Huffington Post once in a while.
He already told America that the FOX News Channel was not really a good source of news, so stay away from these guys, if you believe everything he tells you.
Strangely enough, this week at the Huffington Post, I heard that there were a number of articles, rehashed from previous months, painting Glenn Beck as a kook, a liar, and someone who incites people to violence. Isn’t that weird?
I think it is fantastic that the President of the United States would tell you who and what to listen to, and what sites to visit on the Internet. This is especially ironic since the news broke that the government wants to treat the Internet like a Public Utility, and be able to regulate it, control what you read and what sites you visit.
I am not certain what information Obama is suggesting kids get from the video games and IPods, etc. It could be that Obama is suggesting that subliminal messages from alien planets are invading our audio/video equipment, and brainwashing us.
I was a huge fan of the X-files, so maybe the Martians are sending this misinformation that Obama is trying to warn us about.
However, I think if you wrap your head in tinfoil, you will be okay.
