The first thing you’ll want to do is have your furnace / boiler cleaned. It’s been several months since it’s been working and a quick tune up and check from your oil company or plumber can help it to run smoother and more efficiently. This can be done in the fall.
As the temperatures drop, you’ll want to install your storm windows if you have them. This will help keep the cold out and the warmth in! If you don’t have storms, a simple plastic sheathing kit can be bought from a home improvement store. The plastic sheathing also helps keep the cold out.
Lastly, if you have a wood burning stove or fireplace, make sure you’ve had your annual chimney sweep to make sure nothing has created a home in there! This is also a good time to stock up on firewood.
