Top Money Winners – Poker Tournaments

Poker, a game of skill and luck, has grown tremendously through the past few years. From backroom games to casinos to online poker room, the game has become so widely spread, in the sense that it become a profession more than a hobby for a lot of people.

With the 2010 WSOP, the highest paying event in poker tournaments, almost midway, a lot of top players have the opportunity to add to their winnings. We note that the listing below does not include player earnings from online poker. Here is the listing of the top 10 players as of June 2010. 

1) Phil Ivey

Considered to be one of the most fearsome player in the history of the game, Phil Ivey, an American professional poker player, has amassed around USD12.8m of total tournament winnings. He is currently ranked 253 on the Prorank system.

2) Daniel Negreanu

One of the most likable characters in poker history, Daniel Negreanu, A native of Toronto, has amassed around USD12.5m of total tournament winnings. He is currently ranked 2,918 on the Prorank system.

3) Jamie Gold

Not a very notable face in Poker history, Jamie Gold, an American professional poker player, has amassed his winnings after his WSOP championship in 2006 (USD12.1million). He is currently ranked 12,474 on the Prorank system.

4) Peter Eastgate

A newcomer to the Poker industry, Peter Eastgate, a Danish professional poker player and winner of the 2008 WSOP main event, has amassed USD11.3m in total tournament winnings so far. He is currently ranked 42 on the Prorank system.

5) Scotty Nguyen

One of the most notable faces in the Poker history, Scotty Nguyen, a Vietnamese professional poker player and winner of the 1998 WSOP main event, has amassed USD10.7m in total tournament winnings so far. He is currently ranked 45 on the Prorank system.

6) Joe Hachem

A professional player from Australia, Joe Hachem, winner of the 2005 WSOP main event, has amassed USD10.7m in total tournament winnings so far.

7) John Juanda

Notable for his calm demeanor, John Juanda, an Indonesian-born professional poker has amassed USD10.0m in total tournament winnings so far. He is currently ranked 140 on the Prorank system.

8) Allen Cunningham

Coming into the poker scene late in 1998, Cunningham is considered one of the top young guns to ever play poker tournaments. He has amassed USD9.9m in total tournament winnings so far.

9) Erik Seidel

Erik Seidel is considered one of the few top players to ever play poker tournaments. Coming second to Johnny Chan in the 1988 WSOP main event, Seidel continues his breakthrough achievements in the WSOP world with 7 bracelets. He has amassed USD9.6m in total tournament winnings so far and is currently ranked 9 on the Prorank system.

10) Juan Carlos Mortensen

Coming into the poker scene late in 2001, Mortensen is known for his loose play and fearless nature. With two WSOP bracelets under his belt, in addition to three World Poker Tour titles and the title of WPT World Champion Season, he has amassed USD9.5m in total tournament winnings so far. He is currently ranked 11 on the Prorank system.

Other notable tournament players include T.J. Cloutier Richardson (USD9.4m), Phil Hellmuth (USD9.1m), Michael Mizrachi (USD8.6m), Men “The Master” Nguyen (USD8.2), Chris “Jesus” Ferguson (USD7.7),  Gus Hansen (USD7.2m), Barry Greenstein (USD7.1m), Erick Lindgren (USD6.7m), Mike Matusow (USD6.3m), Dan Harrington (USD6.1m), Doyle Brunson (USD5.5m), Humberto Brenes (USD5.1m), and Huck Seed (USD4.4m)
