For everyone we considered that the first Father’s day was when we see the light of this world. While we shouted our first cry the first person who was excited in our existence was our father. With eyes filled with joy, our father was almost shaking as he first got hold of us. So the question is what/when/who started the father’s day in the honor of our father.

The first idea of children honoring their father was started in Spokane, Washington. While listening to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909 a woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd conceived the idea for Father’s Day, she thought that it would be biased for her that only the mothers will be honored by children while the captain of each and every home be forgotten in silence.

She was raised and nurtured by William Jackson Smart her father after her mother died, Sonora felt the need to appreciate her father and to let him know how special he was to her. Her father gave her the parental guidance and loves her so much and made sacrifices in order to give the ideal comfort for her, in her eyes she view her father to be a courageous, selfless, and loving man. The First Father’s Day celebration in Spokane, Washington was held on the 19th of June, 1910. This was possible because Sonora made the effort to celebrate the first Father’s Day celebration on the birthday of her father.

In 1926, the National Father’s Day Committee was created in New York City for they seen the relevance of celebrating the Father’s day, because they themselves wants to express their gratefulness to their father. Father’s Day was honored and recognized by a Joint Resolution of Congress in 1956. In 1972, President Richard Nixon, authored the permanent national observance of Father’s Day that is to be held on the third Sunday of June. So Father’s Day was made possible by the a grateful daughter who thought that her father and all fathers deserved to be honored for a day as we honor our mothers on Mother’s Day.

Time may change and for almost a century the message of Father’s day is never change even a bit. We as children should be thankful to our fathers for they deserved a much appreciation from you, not only on father’s day but in everyday life as we meet our fathers. Don’t waste a change to pay a thank you to your father, you may find it hard to say but action will be sufficient to let them know how much you appreciate them for the good things that they have done, and even to the tears and joy that you experienced, let them know that you cherish those moments with them and that you are bliss to have them as your father. Remember the first concept why we celebrate this event.

Don’t be distracted by the party, gatherings or even in foods, the important is that your father feels that to be your father is greatly appreciated and you are proud of them. This day is for them and a change for you to say again how much you love them. It would be senseless if we neglect the history of why Father’s Day comes to our calendars. Nevertheless, though the main actor in this day is our fathers but the scene would be lacking if the supporting characters will be missing.

And let it be that honoring your father in this day be memorable each year. We agreed that appreciating our father must be every, yes! It must be, but let this 19th of June be the culminating of your thankfulness to your father. Thank them not only for what they have done but appreciate them for who they are, Father.
