Our Last Night

The moon and star ballet opens

Illuminating a path along our glowing beach

Shinning on our spot under our tree

Where once and almost forever

Our names and hearts and footprints

Etched and washed to sea together

My last warmth of your body and sand

Your laughter on the moon, body in the waves

And your sandy fingers in my hair

The world grows slow, the sun slices waves

Squishy soft footprints dry in the past

And forever won’t last

We can never go to that cold black beach

For it is no longer ours, and there is no we

Washed from the sand, salted by the sea.
