Almost all of us have been dragged out of a deep restful sleep by the annoying sound of a beeping alarm clock, only to hit the snooze button and fall back to sleep. If you are one of those people who is really bad at repeatedly hitting the button, it can result in a mad scramble to get ready for work, and most likely a missed breakfast.
So what can you do to prevent this from reoccuring?
First of all, you need to ensure you have the lights out in time to get your eight hours a night. This is the most important and yet most difficult step to follow.Get your eight hours of sleep! If you wake up refreshed you will find it much easier to get up right away.
Secondly, seriously consider disabling the snooze feature on your clock. If its broken, you won’t have to worry about resisting the temptation to hit it.
Thirdly, move the clock out of reach so that you must get out of bed to turn it off. This will prevent you from turning off the beeping and falling back to sleep. Also, standing up and moving around should be enough exercise to shake off the sleepiness.
Fourthly, reward yourself for getting up. Perhaps it will be an extra long hot shower, or a leisurely reading of the morning paper, or even a brisk walk in the quiet morning air. Whatever you choose, if you give yourself something to look forward it, it makes it that much easier to “rise and shine.”
If you make a habit of each of these steps, you will soon find yourself feeling much more refreshed and energetic – and even looking forward to your mornings!
