Most probably you have heard about thailan main international airport closure in nov 08…this even had a very bad influence on Thailan economy which is mostly related on tourisem industry.thus, many hotels, tours, airlines at the moment that provide cheap service.among them thai air ways has a promotion for flights to and from thailand to diffrent countries and cities in the world.thai airways as it claims smooth as a silk is right now the cheapest way to travel to bangkok, phuket, chiang mai and some of other big cities in Thailand.for example a return flight from Penang island in malaysia is nearly 600 rm whicj is less than 200 USD.

there are some news about the new regulation for thai visa that is not yet effective but will be effective early in 2009.this is that the tourist visa fee will be waived.right now if you wish to obtain a visa to thailand its 1000 TBH which is 110 MR and 30 USD.In penang you can apply for your visa at thai counsulate in Macalister road.you can either go by a taxi or just take bus number 304 to gurney and get of the first station in mc alister road then take the firs street on your left then again left and you are there.

the thai airways office is in burma road near heritage hotel.take a bus from komtar (103 ,101 or 103) and get off at the third station in burma road.on your right hand coming from komtar you can see the sign of Thai…

you also can book a trip at any travel agancy in Chulia street.they might also be able to obtain a gropu visa for you.keep in mind that some nationalities can’t travel to thailand on a visa on arrival basis and most can’t even apply for a visa out side their homecountry unless they have a work permit or student visa on their passport.you may also need a letter from your university/employer.

please see the article I wrote on how to obtain a visa9 always have extra copies of your passport,student/work permit visa) photos and application form.when in bangkok you can find many hotels with different price range.try to get a hotel near siam square or some where near the BTS station for ease of transportation.food is reasonable in thailand and the things worth shopping are clothing, shoes and bags, accessoiries, handy crafts.you can shop in bangkok at central world plaza, platinum mall,MBK, big C,…

night bazar(night markets )are also very popular.you also can enjoy a foot/whole body massage with 110-350 TBH /hour.and enjoy thai culture.while in bangkok don’t forget to visit two important places: Wat Arun ( temple of Dawn ) and wat Phra , grand palace) both at the river side.you can enjoy a boat ride on the river.to enter the palaces, temples and mueums u need to pay between 10-40 TBH ( holding a student card may help reduce the entrance fee).to enter these places wearing descent cloths is advices( not wearing shorts and tops for both men and ladies).

If you want to take a taxi remeber that it starts from 35 TBH for the first 2 kms.motorcycles charge the same as taxis but they are fast and can escape the trafic.always ask for a safty helmet.
