How To Make Homemade Play Dough

Don’t you hate it when people buy your kids play dough?  I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but sometimes I feel like they are giving me the gift of a big old mess! That’s why I make my own play dough.  I make one or two colors at a time and I use an excellent recipe for play dough that remains extremely soft for up to a few months.  And so here is my fantastic homemade play dough recipe that your kids will surely love:

In a large bowl, mix two cups of flour, one cup of salt and two tablespoons of cream of tartar.  Pour in two cups of water and one tablespoon of mineral oil.

To add color to your homemade play dough, mix in a Kool-Aid packet of your choice.  Just pay a visit to your local grocery store and you can select from colors like deep purple, bright red, yellow, lime green, orange and more.

Stir all of the ingredients in a pot and cook over medium heat.  Continue stirring the concoction until it appears stiff.  Cool your play dough and then knead it until it is completely soft.

Your children will love to use things like rolling pins and cookie cutters to make creative play dough creations.  You can provide them with small bakeware, mini cupcake pans, measuring cups and spoons and also sand toy molds for even more imaginative play!

Be sure to store you homemade play dough in a sealed container and keep it at room temperature to ensure that it will stay soft for months!
