Organized by WWF, 2007 saw the birth of Earth Hour in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. It became a global event the following year as key cities and landmarks around the world participated in the campaign. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for Earth Hour 2009.
Earth Hour is not just about switching the lights off but it is a show of commitment of individuals in finding solutions to address the climate change crisis the world is facing today. It is time for us people who live in the same planet take the initiative to start doing ways to help Mother Earth, a time to take a stand. As the world is submerge into darkness, Earth takes the spotlight.
