How To Host A Cookie Decorating Birthday Party

Planning your child’s birthday party can be overwhelming, not to mention expensive and in these trying economical times, it’s important to at least try and stay on budget.  So here is a fun and simple idea for hosting a cookie decorating birthday party that your kids, your guests and your wallet will absolutely love!

Purchase several rolls of refrigerated sugar cookie dough or make a few batches from scratch using a tasty recipe.  Separate the dough and roll it into medium sized balls to accommodate the number of guests at your cookie decorating birthday party.

Dust a clean large table with a sprinkling of flour and give each guest a blob of dough.  Pass around a rolling pin and have each child roll out the dough to form an oversized sugar cookie.  Place the cookies in the oven and bake according to the instructions on the package or your recipe directions.

While your cookies are in the oven, serve lunch to your cookie decorating birthday party guests.  And while your cookies are cooling, open the gifts!  You can also play themed games, like “hot cookie” instead of hot potato and “pin the chocolate on the cookie!”

Now, set up your table with frosting, icing, sprinkles, M&Ms and chocolate morsels.  Invite your guests to decorate their oversized cookies.  Serve the cookies with milk and dessert!

For party favors or gift bags, continue with your theme and give each guest at your cookie decorating birthday party a collection of cookie cutters, bottles of sprinkles, a tube of icing and more!
