Why you have to change your diet and exercise more if you want to lose weight

There comes a time in all our lives when we decide that we want to lose weight. Whether you are obese, overweight or just want to lose a few more pounds, you will have to change your diet and start an exercise routine in order to shed those pounds.

If there was a diet or exercise plan which allowed us to eat as much as we wanted, what we wanted and just relax around the house, then we would all want to sign up. Unfortunately, it is impossible to lose weight this way. Therefore, you need to start planning.

Diet:

A good, healthy diet is essential for losing weight. This is very easy – add more fresh fruit and vegetables to your meals. Cut out processed food as these contain high levels of saturated fat. If you are a lover of junk food, then say bye-bye to those cheeseburgers, chips, fries, chocolates, ice cream etc. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have them, but make them treats instead of everyday things.

If you have some sort of medical conditions (such as PCOS) then you will find a low GI diet will be essential to help you to lose weight.

There have been many fad diets on the market, many endorsed by celebrities. These, in the long term, will not be good for keeping the weight off. Therefore, instead of going on a three day honey and tea diet or a cayenne pepper diet, just stick to healthier foods and smaller portions.

Exercise:

There are days when we don’t want to do anything except play computer games, surf the net or just watch TV. Stress from work or family lives can help reduce our energy levels and this will make us not want to hit the gym or to exercise. However, if you want to lose weight then you will need to start a fun exercise routine.

Going to the gym is a great way to lose weight. If you are new to gym equipment, start with a cardiovascular routine – the treadmill, rowing machines or bikes. Do this for around six weeks and then you can work onto body building. Swimming is a great way to tone up your body.

If going to the gym isn’t your thing, why not start dance classes? Salsa is great with your partner and can make you feel great, both physically and emotionally. If you have a dog, start going for more walks. Walking has shown to be the best way to get a slimmer stomach and tone your calves.

Losing weight is not something that will happen overnight. You will need to change your diet and embark on a good exercise routine in order to shed those unsightly pounds. However, if you stick with it and have fun as well, then you will soon notice a difference both physically and mentally.
