Great Ways To Keep Cool In Arizona This Summer – Part 1

If you’ve been to Phoenix between April and October, you know it get’s hot here. Really hot! So you need some cool places to get away to in order to keep the heat from driving you crazy.

Two of them are right in northern Tempe, and are both right next to each other.

Big Surf

Big Surf is acres and acres of water slides, wave pools and more for kids of all ages (even adult kids). Big Surf opens in May and closes on Labor Day.

Big Surf features 2 sets of water slides, 2 kids areas, grassy shaded space for relaxing, event space for groups and the first wave pool in America, holding over 2 million gallons and boasting waves 5 feet high.

Be sure to bring plenty of sun screen, a towel and some shoes for in between to keep your feet cool.

Admissions are around $20 (food and games are extra) so it’s affordable for a whole day of splashing around

Regular hours are from 11 AM to 6PM.

If you get tired of splashing around at Big Surf, you can just go right next door to Oceanside Ice Arena where it gets down to a chilly 40 degrees.

Oceanside is also the home of several hockey clubs including the Firebirds and the ASU Sun Devils.

You’ll want to check for availability because free skate must make way for hockey games and other events.

Dress for 40 degree weather and bring your skates. Oceanside also provides skate rentals and has pretty good pro shop.

Admission is under $10 and ASU students and military members benefit from free skate rentals.

Oceanside Ice Arena is open year round.

Whether you’re shooting the curls in the sun or skating indoors in the cold, you can keep cool in Arizona every summer.
