The Pasadena Playhouse, founded in 1917, was designated as the Official State Theatre of California in 1937. The Playhouse seats 821 and features live performances of both revivals and premieres of new works. The next coming attractions is a musical called Vanities, written by Jack Heifner and lyrics by David Kirschenbaum and Anneliese Van Der Pol, Lauren Kennedy and Sarah Stiles star as the three main actresses. The Pasadena Symphony has entertained audiences with its exceptional classical presentations for more than 70 years. The 90-member orchestra of professional musicians is considered one of the best in California. The Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden is located at 301 North Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, CA, 91007. The Arboretum is a 127 acre botanical garden and historical site jointly operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. It also offers educational landscape displays such as the Rose Garden. A restored adobe ranch house and ornate Victorian style cottage are also featured at the gardens. In 1970, an abandoned train station, moved from its original location a quarter mile north of The Arboretum and restored to look as fresh as when it was first constructed by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad in 1890.
A typical half-passenger, half-freight depot with living quarters upstairs for the agent and family, the Santa Anita Depot was an active local station stop for both Baldwin Ranch and nearby Sierra Madre residents. At its peak, five passenger and numerous freight trains stopped daily at Santa Anita, and local residents picked up mail in the waiting room.
