How to Make Chocolate Covered Pretzels

I am channeling my inner Martha Stewart and giving all edible homemade gifts this holiday season.  And here is an incredibly easy recipe for chocolate covered pretzel rods that is fun and economical to create:

First of all, you will need several bags of long pretzel rods.  I usually give a half of a dozen to each one of my friends and family members.

Next, melt a few bags of milk chocolate chips or white chocolate chips or both, over low heat.  Dip the pretzel rods halfway into the chocolate and then roll in Christmas sprinkles.  Let the chocolate covered pretzels rods cool on wax paper.  I especially like to roll the white chocolate pretzels in red sprinkles only, for a candy cane effect!

Package your chocolate covered pretzels in plastic tied with red or green ribbon, place in a small holiday stocking and distribute to family and friends. These pretzels are also great for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and even Halloween.  Simply squirt in a few drops of the corresponding food coloring into the melted white chocolate, roll in the proper sprinkles, tie with decorative ribbon and suddenly you have an edible gift for each and every season!

Involve your children in this tasty activity and in the process teach them, not only about baking, but also about giving to others, being creative and saving precious dollars.

As an extra tip you can also first dip your pretzel rods in melted caramel and then in the chocolate and the sprinkles for an even yummier result!
