Prenatal Vitamins for Expecting Momma’s

Prenatal Vitams are recommended to women who are trying to conceive or who are already pregnant. They are formulated with several vitamins in high potency to help the mother and baby. Folic Acid, Iron, Vitamin D,  Thiamine, and Riboflavin are just a few of the vitamins you will find in Pre Natal Vitamins.

Not all prenatal vitamins are the same so it’s recommended you consult your doctor or perhaps midwife to suggest a brand that is of the highest quality. You may even be given a prescription for a specific type as per your doctor’s discretion. It is recommended that the prenatal vitamins contain : folic acid, vitamin D, calcium , vitamin C ,  thiamine, riboflavin , niacine ,vitamin B12  , vitamin E  , zinc,  iron. The recommended miligrams may vary from woman to woman so talking to your doctor or pharmacist before taking prenatal vitamins is a good idea.

These vitamins can help prevent birth defects such as Spina Bifida. If you are just trying to conceive, then it is suggested you take 400 micrograms of Folic Acid so as to prevent Neural Tube Defects as women often do not realize they are pregnant until they have missed their period. Neural Tube Defects happen within the first 28 days of pregnancy after conception.

There is of course the possibility that Prenatal Vitamins can cause nausea on top of the nausea you may already be experiencing. Talk to your doctor about this as he or she may prescribe a different prenatal vitamin or give you chewable or liquid which may be better tolerated.
