Do we know what we are eating?

Every newspaper and magazine that has a health section, will have articles of harmful foods which if ingested regularly can harm ourhealth. The item of food which surprised me the most, is the skin of the cheese which in most cases is artificially made. When these are sliced thinly most of the time it is eaten without giving it a second thought.

The other foods which are reported to be harmful are nuts. This delectable snack food needs to be processed with chemicals so as to retain its long term freshness. Once again too many nuts that have always been reported to be one of the most natural foods can also be a deadly instrument to our system.

Still somewhat skeptical on the reports I decided to look at the content at the back of the packets. Naturally in print too small for the naked eye, I grabbed my magnifying glass and surprise, surprise; there they were. The little pesky things were there in bold black letters; all different types of chemicals which would look perfect in a formula for chemical warfare.

While all this is going on I keep reading and hearing that our diet must include protein and carbohydrates which should be made up of meat, eggs, fruit, grains and legumes. Well this sounds really good, that is until your eyes catch another articles pointing out what chemicals are used to preserve them: another cause for concern –is my health threatened even by these innocuous looking foods?

Are we to ignore all the warning given to us or should we follow nutritionist’s advice and go organic?  Even if we did and are prepared to increase our food bill, where is the guarantee that no chemicals have been used to speed up their growth and quantity?
