Here today we start the first of a three part mock of the 2010 NFL draft. I will start off at the very top and work my way through all 32 picks in the first round briefly discussing each selection. As I mentioned this is the first part so make sure and check out the links at the end of the article for the 2nd and 3rd parts as well. Enough of the jabbering lets get to the picks.
1. St. Louis Rams – QB Sam Bradford
2. Detroit Lions – OT Russell Okung
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – DT Ndamukong Suh
4. Washington Redskins – QB Jimmy Clausen
5. Kansas City Chiefs – OT Bryan Bulaga
6. Seattle Seahawks – DT Gerald McCoy
7. Cleveland Browns – S Eric Berry
8. Oakland Raiders – OT Bruce Campbell
9. Buffalo Bills – OT Trent Williams
10. Jacksonville Jaguars – WR Dez Bryant
11. Denver Broncos – DT Dan Williams
I feel very strongly that Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen are gonna go to the Rams and Redskins in some order depending on which one the Lions feel is the better quarterback. Both teams are looking to start over fresh and that can be done by going out and getting a stud rookie quarterback. The Rams have lost so much money in recent years and just recently got rid of Marc Bulger so it seems like an obvious pick. The Redskins have brought in a new coach and most people around the franchise are ready to be done with Jason Campbell.
There will be a rash of offensive and defensive linemen throughout most of the rest of the first round. I think the Lions will pass on the temptation of Ndamukong Suh and take Russell Okung to protect Matt Stafford so he can get the ball to Calvin Johnson who is a beast waiting to happen with the right parts on offense. The Buccaneers and Seahawks are seemingly locks to go defensive tackle and take Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy in some order with those picks.
I think the Cleveland Browns will find it too hard to pass on Eric Berry with that pick and take him if nothing else for the value at that point. It would surprise me at all to see the Oakland Raiders follow that pick up with Taylor Mays because we all know that Al Davis loves speed guys. But for some reason I think they go offensive line with the pick. It’s just a 2010 NFL mock draft if it’s wrong then oh well.
The Jacksonville Jaguars desperately need to go out and get a playmaker at wide receiver and Dez Bryant would likely bring that to the team. The word is that they almost pulled the trigger on both Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree here in the last year but passed because of character issues. That could lead them to go a different direction but for some reason I think Dez Bryant is gonna be the guy at this spot.
