With many families facing economic hardship, it is more important than ever to achieve a great score on the SAT.  A high score can help obtain scholarships and admittance into great schools.   The vocabulary section, in particular, tends to trip up many students with unfamiliar words.  Having a good grasp of words likely to appear on the test can is a great way to improve your vocabulary, as well as your chances of getting a scholarship.

The SAT is offered at predetermined times and places throughout the country.  The first step towards achieving a better score is signing up for a test.  The SAT is administered by The College Board.  You can find dates and times at their website.  Your next step is taking a practice SAT exam as soon as possible.  You need to know where you are at and how far you have to go.

Motivation and determination are key factors when trying to improve your score.  From my experience you need to make the process fun and interesting.  Otherwise, your study habits will quickly trail off. Studying with friends is highly encouraged.  This buddy system helps to keep you both motivated while you strive for success.  The competitive aspect, between you and your friend, can actually be a positive.  You can both push each other towards success.

Your choice of study guide is a very important aspect.  A variety of materials is key.  So is having a fun and interactive guide.  I suggest using an official study guide that contains practice exams along with an interactive product.  One such example is Rhyminders.  This study aide helps you learn vocabulary words by incorporating them in short concise rhymes that are both enjoyable and informative.  It is also an eBook which allows you to have guide always at your finger tips.

Making the SAT preparation process enjoyable is essential to achieving a high score.  A motivated student is much more likely to remember what they are studying than a passive student.  Don’t let a limited vocabulary take away your dreams for the future.  With preparation and practice you will be well on your way.
