Fettuccine alfredo is an easy to do dish.
You can make it all in one pan.
Use any kind of pasta you want to and it will still taste fabulous.
To make it a meal, instead of just a side dish, add some vegetable or chicken. Maybe both. Whatever sounds good to you, will make it your own.
To make it you will need:
1/3 cup half and half, light cream, or heavy whipping cream
1 Tablespoon margarine or butter
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
4 ounces dried fettuccine or other pasta of your choosing
cracked black pepper( optional)
ground nutmeg( optional)
Take the half and half or cream out of the refrigerator and let it stand at room temperature for about thirty minutes.
Meanwhile, cook your pasta according to the directions on the back of the package. Drain.
Return the pasta to the warm pan.
To that: add the half and half, the butter, and the Parmesan cheese.
Now is the time to add anything else such as meat or a vegetable or both.
Toss everything together gently until the pasta and/or vegetables and meat are nicely coated.
Put in a serving dish and add the optional pepper and nutmeg.
The pasta alone will make 4 side dish servings. Adding vegetables or meat to it will make 4 meal size servings.
Some other possible seasonings to add instead of pepper and nutmeg would be garlic and basil. For this, I would suggest adding some garlic powder or one minced garlic clove in with the Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle some chopped basil over the top of the finished dish.
Another suggestion I have is for if you are adding vegetables to the dish. When cooking the pasta, add your vegetables to the water when there is just a few minutes left on the timer. No need to dirty another dish that way.
I hope you enjoy this dish!
