Today Carlos Quentin hit two home runs off Cubs pitcher Carlos Silva. He went two for three with 2 runs, and 5 rbi’s in a rout of the Chicago Cubs by the score of 15-3. He also struck out once. This is definitely good news for Carlos Quentin fantasy baseball owners. In 2008 Carlos showed that he belongs in the big leagues, playing in only 130 games but still hit 36 home runs, with 100 rbi’s. In 2009 his season was interrupted by a wrist, a knee, and foot injury. He never regained his power after returning with a special boot for his plantar fasciitis. Now, presumably healthy, Carlos will be given the opportunity to build on his 2008 numbers and become one of the top outfielders in the game while getting a slight bargain rate in the draft. You will probably be able to sneak Quentin a round or two past his ability. However, Quentin’s talents are not completely unknown so he won’t be a steal. If you plan to acquire him via trade it would be wise to let this fire go out or you will pay more—that is “if” the fire goes out. Quentin is moving his position from left field to right field—a move he is welcoming and in his words, “I’m pretty excited about that,” He has also had a wire removed from his surgically repaired wrist and if he can remain healthy, expect 40 home runs, 110 rbi’s and a handful of stolen bases. He is definitely one of the players to watch this spring. He has a very high ceiling, After all he is 27.
