How to Make Mac N’ Cheese with NO Milk and NO Butter

Are you all out of milk? Or maybe you aren’t milk drinker so you normally just don’t keep it on hand? Looking for less fat in your diet? It’s ok. You can still make mac n’ cheese and it tastes just about the same as the normal recipe. This method may even satisfy some folks with milk allergies since yogurt has much less lactose in it than milk does.



Heat the water on the stove top in a two or three quart saucepan. Heat on high until the water is at a rolling boil.


Cook the noodles in the boiling water according to the package directions and then drain the noodles well.


Next, add the contents of the “dusty orange cheese” packet and about 1/2 cup of plain yogurt. You can add more or less yogurt according to how saucy you like your mac n’ cheese.  


Mix the noodles, cheese dust and yogurt completely with a spoon and let stand for a couple of minutes so that the noodles absorb some of the liquid.

Enjoy. I know my kids can’t tell the difference between this recipe and the one on the box!
