Here is a recipe to Bake the Finest Top Secret Crumb Cake Ever. I am putting up recipes from my vast collection that are unusual, hard to find, or are just different in case any searchers are looking for hard to find recipes they remember from childhood that are lost. So far, the recipes I’m putting up are getting lots of views, so I will keep going at it.
I found this recipe and saw it had an interesting story written about it. I’m including the story behind it and it goes like this…”This recipe was closely guarded by someone’s Grandmother. One day, someone stopped by and distracted her in the living room while another person slipped into the kitchen and copied her secret recipe down…It’s the best crumb cake you’ve ever tasted, and Grandma still thinks her recipe is a secret. Shhhh.”

- Step 1
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Grease a 9 X 13 inch pan with butter.
- Step 2
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 C flour, 2/3 C sugar, 2 t. baking powder, and 1/2 t. salt. Cut in 1 stick of butter with a pastry blender or 2 butter knives until mixture is crumbly.

In another bowl, combine 1 large beaten egg, 1 t. Pure Vanilla Extract, and 1/2 C milk.

Pour the egg mixture into the crumbly mixture. Mix well and spread in pan. Bake cake (recipe doesn’t say for how long). I would guess 25 – 30 minutes because cake will be baked again with crumbs on top in next step. So, don’t overbake it in this step.
- Step 5
MAKE CRUMB TOPPING: In a glass bowl, Combine 1 stick melted butter and 1 t. Pure Vanilla Extract. Set aside. Combine in another bowl, 1 C sugar, 1 C flour, 2 t. cinnamon, 1 t. baking powder, and 1/4 t. salt. Add butter mixture and use fork to make crumbs. Combine the two mixtures.
Sprinkle crumbs on cake and bake for another 10 minutes with crumbs on top.

Cool cake in pan for 10 minutes then sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar all over top.
