Things You’ll Need:
- 3 C all purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp salt
- 2/3 C unsweetened cocoa
- 2 C white sugar
- 2 tsp white vinegar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2/3 C melted butter or margarine
- 2 C cold water
- 9×13 pan
Preheat oven to 350 F. Do not grease the pan.
Sift the flour, baking soda and salt directly into the pan. No mixing bowl is needed!
Combine the cocoa and sugar in a small bowl, then stir it into the flour in the pan.
Make three indentations in the flour in the pan. In the first one, place the vinegar. In the second, place the vanilla. In the last hole, pour the melted butter. I usually melt the butter in a glass measuring cup partially covered with plastic wrap and place on 1/2 power in the microwave for about 1 minute.
Now pour the cold water all over the whole mess and stir it well. Using a fork or rubber spatula works well. Make sure you get the dry ingredients that might be stuck in the corners.
bake for 35-35 minutes until a toothpick poked into the center comes out clean.
Frost or sprinkle with powdered sugar when completely cooled, if desired.
