The Benefits of Using a Treadmill

Treadmills are great if you need to focus on measuring various results of your workouts.  From distance to how many calories you burn a treadmill is going to have many features that are automatic—which you can’t find while running on the streets or on a track.  Treadmills also have programs implemented into them that you can work with which varies your workouts—an important aspect to having results later.

The Disadvantages of Treadmills

Treadmills aren’t the most perfect machine for working out—no machine is.  Some of the disadvantages voiced about treadmills are the size and noise level of treadmills.  They are heavy and large.  Because of their bulkiness a treadmill can be extremely hard to move.  While many companies have worked to make “space-saving” machines they can still be rather difficult to deal with.

The noise level of treadmills caused by the motor (especially from cheaper machines) can be annoying.  There are ways to drown out the noise for you—watching television or listening to music—however, the surrounding area is still impacted by the sounds of you running.

Another disadvantage of using the treadmill is the fact that it doesn’t adequately provide a simulated environment for running outside.  While a treadmill can help in losing weight and sometimes even building endurance, the effects of outside influences can’t be reenacted on a treadmill.  Some of the concerns related to this are the differences between the impact the road has on the legs compared to a treadmill, the resistance from the wind or just air rushing past a moving body and even the method in which you move your arms when you’re on a treadmill compared to when you’re actually running on the streets.

If you’re looking for a great machine to work out on a treadmill is one of the best options because of how easy it is to use and the variety of workouts you can get from just the one machine.  While you can’t literally train for a marathon on a treadmill you can get into better physical shape.
