Crocheting is a relaxing pastime that has become increasingly popular. Most people think of yarn when they hear crochet, but fabric, thread, rope, wire and many other items can be knotted into beautiful creations. The following instructions for my crocheted heart shaped rag rug came about after cleaning an area in my office and rediscovering 5 yards of fabric that I found at a church tag sale. Now when I purchased this fabric, it tugged at my heart, more for the bargain I was getting than any idea I had for its use. Truth be told, I really had no idea what I was going to do with it. Hence the reason it had become lost for many months in a corner of my office. This rediscovering prompted new tugs at my heart. This time they were tugs of inspiration. I decided to crochet a heart shaped rag rug.
Things you will need:
5 yards 54 inch wide fabric
Q crochet hook
Prepare the fabric:
Cut 2 inch strips across the width of the fabric. Cut a small slit about a 1/2 inch from both ends on each strip. With the right sides of the fabric strips facing up, place the end of the joining strip over the end of the beginning strip, matching the slits. Insert the free end of the joining strip through both slits from the bottom to the top. Pull the strips slightly to form a knot. Continue to join all strips.

Repeat rows 1-4 of the left top.
With the right side facing, connect the fabric strip with a slip stitch in the last slip stitch on Row 1 of both the left and right heart top side. Single crochet in the slip stitch, and in each stitch and row end around the heart rag rug. Slip stitch in the beginning single crochet and finish off. Weave in the end on the back.
