To whiten your whites when doing laundry – try adding straight lemon juice to the wash water. Not only will this whiten but it will also freshen and get rid of unpleasant odors.

Cut a lemon into thin slices. Place 1/2 of the slices in a small bowl or styrofoam.

Add lemon juice to rice or potatoes to keep their white color.
