Do you ever feel like you have an itch deep inside your ear or throat and you can’t scratch it?  Having an itchy ear or throat can be sign of allergies.  This is a terrible sensation and can cause hours of discomfort. The feeling of having an itch inside your body and not being able to scratch it can make anyone mad.  So, what can you do about it?

Having an itchy ear or throat can mean you are suffering from allergies.  This could be an air born allergy or a food allergy. When having any allergic symptom it’s best to get checked out by a doctor. If you are having trouble breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or other signs of anaphylaxis shock seek emergency treatment.

There are many antihistamines on the market today that can help relieve some symptoms such as this, if it’s caused by an allergy. Sometimes itchiness in the ears or throat could be from an infection or a virus.  Once again it’s best to be seen by your physician when experiencing these symptoms.  Some people find relief in using a saline nasal rinse or netti pot to relieve their itchy throat and ears.  One thing that seems to help on occasion is drinking a hot cup of water.  The warmth on the throat can be soothing and take away the intense itchy sensation.  The best thing to do is to find out what is causing your allergy and avoid the culprit or take medications.
