A. R. Rehman becomes first Indian to win a Golden Globe Award

The sensational music wizzard from India has done it again – he has made India proud yet again by winning the prestigious Golden Globe Award for his outstanding music for the much acclaimed film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. The shy composer from India won the award for the ‘Best Original Background Score’ in the 66th edition of the Golden Globe awards.

The movie also won three other Golden Globes for various categories like best direction, best picture-drama and best screenplay. The movie was already making waves by winning six critic choice awards, with the movie being judged sensation by many of the panelists.

The film relates a  heart warming story of an 18-year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai who goes on to win a whooping Rs.20 million on India’s “Kaun Banega Crorepati?” game show, which is on the lines of America’s “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”

A. R. Rehman’s award, though, is a thing to cherish for the music genius whose entry to the world stage was just a formality giving the geniuses in him. He made India proud by being the first Indian ever to win the Golden Globe. His speech was a short and sweet one, given his shy nature, but he did well thanking the  Almighty God for the award. His thank you list also had Danny Boyle, Fox Pictures and all his musicians in Chennai and Mumbai. Rahman also thanked the billion people from India who were looking forward to his winning the award.

In addition to this Rahman had also won Six popular Awards for his compositions in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

The Indian fans of A. R. Rehman are very happy on the achievement and wish him all the best wishes to carry on with his wonderful job. The crowd are happy and it won’t be a wrong thing to dream of his winning an Oscar later in the month of February for the same film. He has really made India proud today. What great music!
