  1. A. Your spiritual diet should mainly consist of the teachings of the New Testament, specifically the epistles (letters) which were written to the church (Romans 16:25).
    1. The first thing to study is teachings on love.
      1. Discover the characteristics of love in 1 Corinthians 13.
        1. i.            Walking in the love of God eradicates spiritual immaturity.
        2. ii.            Pride, quarrels and adultery are indicative of the baby stage of spiritual development in a Christian life.
      2. The only way to grow out of spiritual babyhood is to allow the love of God to determine your behavior.
    2. Grow spiritually by feeding on the Word of God.
      1. You feed on the Word by reading and meditating on it. This provides nourishment for your spirit.
      2. Knowledge by itself will not grow you up—it is your acting on knowledge that helps you grow.
      3. God never intended for you to remain a spiritual baby (Ephesians 4:13, 14).
  2. B. There are eight foundational things that every Christian needs to know.
    1. Redemption
    2. Who you are in Christ and who Christ is in you
    3. Your right standing before God
    4. The righteousness of God
    5. The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ
    6. An understanding of Jesus’ ascension to Heaven
    7. What it means to be seated at the right hand of God the Father
    8. The present day ministry of Jesus Christ—what He is doing right now
  3. C. You can do all things, including growing up spiritually, through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).
    1. Through Him, you will be able to grow up.
    2. Without a desire, you can’t grow—you must desire the sincere milk of the Word, which includes the fundamental teachings of the Bible.
    3. Whenever you find yourself doing fleshy things (not walking in love, holding unforgiveness, having no temperance) you need to spend more time in the Word.
    4. Every Believer should aspire to be the teacher of at least one person.
    5. Don’t be a person whose spiritual hearing becomes dull, or else you will remain a spiritual baby (Hebrews 5:11).
    6. As you grow up spiritually, you will be able to handle the deeper truths of the Bible and become skillful in the Word of God, discerning good and evil (Hebrews 5:13).
  4. D. Love is the key to your growth.
    1. Pastors must discipline their churches because they love the people (2 Corinthians 7:12).
    2. Don’t be a person who increases in knowledge but never learns the truth (2 Timothy 3:7).
    3. Be a follower of God (Ephesians 5:1).
      1. Imitate His love.
      2. If you follow the devil instead of following God, you will end up in hell.
      3. Believers are commanded to love (John 13: 34, 35).
      4. Love is a fruit, which means it must grow (Galatians 5:22).
      5. We are intended and designed by God to bear the fruit of love in our lives (John 15:5).
      6. You must not seek to take advantage of others, but to give them the advantage (1 Corinthians 10:24). This is walking in the love of God.
  5. E. You must renew your mind in order to grow up spiritually.
    1. Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).
    2. To renew your mind is to change the way you think by applying the Word of God where your mindsets are concerned.
      1. Renew your mind where the love of God is concerned.
    3. Be renewed in the spirit of your mind and put on the new man (Ephesians 4:23-24).
      1. Renew your mind by reading and hearing the Word of God.
