Caring For Stray Cats That Were Abandoned

Stray Cats can be found in almost any neighborhood. Maybe you have one that will show up on your door step howling for food.  Many cats that live in apartment complexes are abandoned each year when the owners move out.  The owners will move leaving their cherished pet behind.  Should you try to feed these cats?  Should you maybe even take one in?  Maybe you should just call the Human Society.  What to do is completely up to you; here is something that you will have to do if you decided to help a stray cat in need.

If you choose to take the cat in and make the stray a family pet, there are a few things you will need to do.  First you will have to take the cat to the vet and have a complete physical done on the cat.  Make sure the cat doesn’t have any diseases or parasites.  Make sure the cat receives the proper shots and if the cat has not been neutered or spayed make an appointment to do so.  Next you will want to take your new friend down to the local groomer.  Make sure to get the cats ears inspected for mites, fleas taken care of and a nice bath.  After all this excitement you can go to the store on your way home and pick up cat food, litter and a litter box.  Now you are the proud owner of your very own rescued cat.

If you choose to take care of the cat, but leave them outdoors.  What you will need is some cat food, bowl for food and a bowl for water.  Prepare for this cat to stay around your home on a permanent basis.  The cat will appreciate your kindness and will become part of the family from afar.  Now you have your very own rescued outdoor cat.

If you choose to call the animal rescue, try to find one that offers a no kill shelter. Look for a shelter that makes an active effort to find new homes for their pets.  Cats are wonderful creatures and they should be taken care of the best we can.
