Asleep At The Wheel is a neat name for a singing group, but it’s definitely not something you want to experience while driving. Our society is chronically sleep deprived, making for a vast number of tired and sleepy drivers on our Nation’s roadways. The farther the distance a tired and sleepy driver must drive, the higher the risk is of falling asleep at the wheel.
If you are one of those sleep deprived people that must drive daily or even occasionally, here are some tips to help your stay awake and alert while driving.
Suck on peppermint candy or any hard candy that contains cinnamon. Peppermint and cinnamon have been proven to boost alert and cut driving fatigue.
Drink a cup of coffee. When you’re driving and begin to feel tired, stop at a service station, get out of the car to stretch your legs and purchase a cup of coffee to go.
Crank up the car stereo. Play music with a fast rhythm and singers that hit the high notes. Your brain waves, heart rate and breathing will speed up to match the beat of the music, and the high notes the singers hit will keep you sharp as you look at the mundane road ahead of you.
Roll down the car’s window to let fresh air circulate in the car. Most car’s are virtually air tight and keep recycling stale, warm air inside the vehicle which will make you feel tired and drowsy. let some fresh air inside the car, even if the temperature is freezing, it will help to keep you awake and alert while driving.
