The first step to getting money for school you don’t have to repay is simple. Go to the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) website: www.fafsa.ed.gov. This will take you to the main page of the website.

STEP TWO

Fill out the FAFSA application. Go to the green box on the main page of the website (step 2) and click “Fill out your FAFSA”.

In order to ensure that you get the most money for college you do not have to repay, make sure you have your driver’s license, social security number, and tax information on hand.

Fill out each question and complete the form in it’s entirety.

STEP FOUR

At the end of the form, it will ask you if you would like to sign your form electronically or my mail. The easier and faster choice to receive money for college is electronically.

If you do choose this option, you will receive a four digit PIN by e-mail in 2-3 business days. Once you receive your PIN by e-mail, a link will also be provided which will lead you back to your finished application. Click it and enter your pin in the available spot.

STEP FIVE

After signing your FAFSA, allow up to five business days for it to be completed.

You can go back to the main page, www.fafsa.ed.gov, to check the status of your application. This is located in the orange box, step 3, under the link “Check Status of a Submitted FAFSA or Print Signature Page”.

You will then find your EFC(Expected Family Contribution). If it says “0”, that means financially, you are expected to pay for none of your college. This means you are eligible to receive up to $5100 of a Pell Grant, which you do not have to pay back.
