Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14th each year.

Valentine’s Day is usually celebrated by lovers with gifts to each other of red roses, chocolate candy in a heart shaped box and other gifts. Millions of Valentine’s Day cards are also sent by regular mail. Many e-cards are also sent by email.

Valentine’s Day cookies are easy to make. Just follow the recipe below. You will need a heart shaped cookie cutter.

 Valentine’s Day Cookies Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Red food coloring

Egg yolk

Valentine’s Day Cookies Directions:

Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt. Put aside. Mix together the butter and sugar and mix well. Add the eggs and vanilla extract. Add the four mixture a little at a time and mix well. Refrigerate for at least one hour.

Roll out the dough on a floured board to about 1/8 inch thick. Use the heart shaped cookie cutter to cut the dough. Mix together a few drops of red food coloring with the egg yolk. Using a small brush, paint the tops of each unbaked cookie.

Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for about eight minutes at 400 degrees. Remove from oven and cool before serving.

If you would like to frost your Valentine’s Day cookies instead, omit the red food coloring and egg yolk. After baking cookies and cool for at least one hour. Use a can of prepared white frosting and add a few drops of red food coloring and mix well. Frost each cookie lightly with the red frosting.
