The most effective way for killing the pain is to take a tablet in your mouth and hold it against the affected tooth with the help of the tongue. As the Tylenol or Aspirin tablet starts to dissolve, it will work its way into the nerves of the tooth and stop the pain. This is one of the most effective and fastest ways to stop toothache, though the tablet can leave a terrible taste and flavor in your mouth after it has dissolved.

So you should make it a point and visit a dentist as soon as you can.

However, in case you are not able to go to the dentist for one reason or the other, you should use some Ambesol or other similar product, or even use Tylenol or Aspirin which will give you immediate relief from the pain, till the time you make it to the dentist for getting yourself properly treated for the problem.
