Filipinos are fond of sports; whether they’re playing it or just watching others play it. It is very obvious that basketball is our first and number one love. But, it looks like the world of volleyball is catching up. The University Athletic Association of the Philippines, or UAAP, is on its 72nd season of volleyball. Despite the fact the sport was not an overnight sensation. It took years and decades to build volleyball’s popularity, and, now the crowd of fans is getting bigger.

In this year’s season, eight teams from different colleges and universities came to compete. They are the Adamson Lady Falcons, Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles, De La Salle Lady Archers, Far Eastern Lady Falcons, National University Lady Bulldogs, University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, University of the East Lady Warriors, and University of the Philippines Lady Maroons. The first half of the season wrapped up last December, and the second half starts this month. So far, the Lady Archers is sitting prettily at the top spot, with Adamson on its tail. The aforementioned two teams should be complacent, though. The Tigresses, Lady Eagles, and Lady Tamaraws are not far behind.

Last year, DLSU brought home the bacon after finishing a 2-1 series against FEU. However, this year, UST has been dubbed as the team to “watch out for.” With their formidable tower of players, other teams really do need keep their eyes out because UST has surely set their eyes on the prize. But it looks like the Lady Eagles are not intimidated by the Tigresses. They have been knocking on the door ever since. Can they force their way in this time, even without their key player Charo Soriano? Can the FEU Lady Tamaraws, sans Rachel Daquis, rise up to the challenge, too? Perhaps, the most important question of all is, can the Lady Archers keep their crown this year and maintain their already- flawless record?

Stay tuned to the exciting second half of UAAP’s Season 72 Women’s Volleyball Tournament!
